Yarning Along with Ginny:
It’s been a bit since I shared anything new. There have been lesson plans to make, last minute summer joys to experience, and littles to snuggle. There have been weeks that flew by without my knitting a single stitch.
I started those slippers. The one I finished came out a little big, and it’s still so hot here in Michigan that the idea of knitting another one just didn’t sound good at all. A friend and I have been working on a pair of socks as well… but seeing as she lives in Edmonton and we have to work around school schedules and the busyness that comes with being stay at home mom’s, it’s slow going. We have agreed that we will only work to a certain point then meet up on FaceTime to start the next section. She’s never knit socks, and I’ve always had trouble with making socks to fit, so working together is proving to be a nice change. Over all though, knitting has been a little boring around here.
Then I got a package in the mail. My friend Ann had contacted me for my address (she’s a Facebook friend, we have never met in real life) a while back so I knew to be watching out for it. What I didn’t know was what was going to be inside!
That yarn! The shawl pin! Ahhhh! I knew I had to cast on immediately, and I knew it would have to be something simple to show off the amazing pattern in the yarn. At first, Nae seemed intimidating. The picture makes it look bigger than it is turning out, somehow, and I am not a huge fan of stockinette. On the other hand, I knew that this yarn needed the perfect pattern to show it off. So I cast on.
I LOVE IT. The pattern was easy to memorize, I can pick it up and do three rows and know exactly where I am, and I adore how the colours are coming out. It’s perfect.
In my last post, I mentioned a book that kept me so intrigued that I read during my friend’s party! Steph asked what it was so I made a note to share it today. The Man in the Blue Moon is the story of Ella and her family as they try and make a living and keep their small farm in Dead Lakes, Florida. Just as she thinks she has no hope left, a mysterious man arrives and offers to help the family out. It’s a wild ride that will not disappoint! It’s been a long time since I read a book so engaging that I could not put it down!
Busy day round here, friends. I’m gonna take a walk and teach some lessons, then be back to check in on everyone’s projects for the week… I can’t wait to see them!
